The Lauderdale County Republican Women this week will honor a major Mississippi GOP convert Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck.
Carol Mabry, secretary of organization at the state level, said a reception is set for Thursday, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., in the Dulaney Room at Meridian Community College.
Liz Carroll, Tuck's communications director, said the lieutenant governor is looking forward to coming to Meridian.
Tuck, 39, of Maben, left the Democratic Party on Dec. 2. She's unopposed in the Aug. 5 GOP primary.
But three well-known Democrats are competing in the August primary for the right to challenge Tuck in the Nov. 4 general election.
They are former state Supreme Court justice Jim Roberts of Pontotoc, state Sen. Barbara Blackmon of Canton and Troy Brown, former dean of students at Mississippi Valley State University.
A Reform Party candidate, Anna J. Reives, is also seeking the position.
