Plans for a farewell ceremony today for a Meridian-based Army Reserve unit have been canceled because the unit already has shipped out.
The 1181st Army Transportation Terminal Battalion was supposed to go to Fort Stewart, Ga., but instead was shipped to Fort Eustis, Va., on Thursday because of a chance to serve there.
Fort Eustis is between Williamsburg and Newport News. It is the home of the Army Transportation Corps and the Transportation Corps Regiment
The unit of about 70 solders was called to active duty in a partial mobilization of forces by President Bush. The unit's mission is to perform operations services at terminals and also arrange for the loading and unloading of cargo from barges or ships.
