A Meridian woman remained in the Lauderdale County jail Thursday after being charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of her 28-year-old brother.
Meridian police said they arrived on the scene of the shooting in the 1400 block of 28th Avenue about 9:45 p.m. and found Meridian resident George Russell shot once in the head. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police charged his sister, Tiffany Russell, 32, with manslaughter. Her bond was set at $25,000.
Det. Dean Harper of the Meridian Police Department said the two had apparently been arguing before the shooting and that officers believed manslaughter was the more appropriate charge.
If found guilty, Tiffany Russell could face up to 20 years in prison.
Harper said the victim was shot with a handgun outside a residence, adding that neither the victim nor his sister lived at the house. Harper said Tiffany Russell was "with the victim" in the driveway when police arrived and "was remorseful" about the shooting. "She was very cooperative," he said.
