Northwest Junior High School placed first in the Mathcounts competition Feb. 1 at Meridian Community College.
Members of the Northwest team are Kayla Braddock; John Carroll, captain; Meeta Desai; and Maggie Forester.
In the individual Mathcounts competition, Forester placed fifth, Braddock placed third, Desai placed second and Carroll placed first.
The students advanced to the state competition this month in Jackson.
The following students have been selected to represent Northwest Junior High School at the annual District Honor Band Clinic at Mississippi State University: Samantha Gearlds, Murrietta Jones, Sasha Luster, Eulina Thomas and Adam Wilson.
Eight Northwest Junior High School art students recently submitted 12 pieces of artwork and three photographs to the 2003 Mississippi Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition.
Out of the 15 pieces of artwork submitted, the school had five winners: Yinessa Cacapit, three drawings; Robert Herrington, one drawing; and Lucas Wilson, one drawing.
Scholarship recipients at Itawamba Community College for 2003 include Heather Limerick of Meridian.
Limerick will be a 2003 graduate of Clarkdale Attendance Center, where her activities include soccer and membership in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students and she is a letterman in basketball, soccer and track. She is the daughter of Kim Tyson and Wayne Limerick.
Jill Suzanne Hicks of Meridian was recently named to the dean's academic honor list for the fall 2002 session at Baylor University.
Members of the March of Dimes Committee at the Newton County Career and Technical Center who headed up the March of Dimes service project for the organization were Victoria Loper, Char'Dae Knowlin, Jason Chaney and Casey Griffin.
