Entry deadline nears for tourney

The March 22 deadline for entry into the 40th Annual YABA City Tournament is now less than two weeks away.
Parents and coaches of our junior bowlers are reminded to put the finishing touches on you kids' teams, doubles and single events. The $25 entry fee includes all three events and must accompany the entry form.
Please make sure that completed entry forms and fees are received by local association Leon Fike by the deadline.
Also, be sure and see how you can register your child to be eligible to win a scholarship. Awards and scholarships will be awarded during a banquet following the team event on Sunday, March 30.
While the entry deadline for the Mississippi Women's Bowling Association State Tournament has already passed, the men still have a few weeks to go.
The deadline for the men's tournament is midnight, April 3. So, let's go guys. Be getting your teams together and get those entries in.
The men's tournament will be held at Rebelanes in Tupelo while the ladies will hold their tournament here in Meridian. Both tournaments will kick off May 3, 2003.
The next edition of Stan's Classic Tournaments 8 Game Sweeper will be this Sunday, March 16 at Family Bowling Center in Pearl. This is less than 90 minutes away and a good opportunity for local bowlers to take part.
In local action last week, Barry Woods continued to kick his game up a notch. Barry has been hotter than a pistol since just before the Christmas break and brought it all to a head when he strung 12 straight strikes for his second 300 Game while bowling in the Hucklebuck league last Monday.
It was the fourth perfect game of the season in league play and the sixth overall. Barry managed to keep it together and finish the night with a nice 714 series. Mark Kilgore came close with a 10-in-a-row 289 in the Tuesday Night Mixed league. Andrew Clayton led the guys with a 749 effort while Greg Taylor notched a 721.
Eric Embrey stepped in with a 717 and Mike Cothern added his house leading 16th "7" with a 708.
Congratulations to the Upton Drugs teams in the Bowlerettes league who qualified for the season ending roll off in that league by taking the top spot in third round competition.
For the ladies last week, Shirley Gaines stepped up to the forefront with a 246/655 effort in the Dixie Belles league. Shirley also fired a 615 in the Monday Nighters league.
Speaking of that league, Marlene Cacapit realized a career high and created some excitement when she fired off eight straight strikes to finish with a 226 game. Denise Rutledge kept the good time going with a 273/604.
Renee King popped off a nice 233 and Angie Thomas reeled off a 224. Last week's Bowlerettes league Bowler of the week was Virginia Bates.
Position rounds for Queen City and Ball &Chain leagues were also held last week, but were bowled after the deadline for this article to be submitted so I will have those results next week.
Position rounds are slated this week for the Senior Citizens and Wednesday Night Mixed leagues will be held this week.
