Services for Kinsman Divine Ford, D.D.S., will be held today at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Robbins, Bill Price and Dr. Clarence Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Ford, 82, of Meridian, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. During World War II Ford served in the U.S. Air Corps. as a flight instructor for the B-17 bomber. After graduating from Memphis State University, Ford attended the University of Tennessee Dental School where he graduated in 1951. Dr. Ford moved to Stonewall where he practiced dentistry for one year before moving to Meridian. In 1952, Dr. Ford opened his dental practice in Meridian where he practiced until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Ford helped establish the Dental Hygiene Program at Meridian Community College and was an instructor at the school. Dr. Ford's involvement in forming the Mental Health Association of Meridian led to a long career as the dentist at East Mississippi State Hospital. Dr. Ford served the dental association and the mental health association on both local and state levels.
Dr. Ford was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader and taught Sunday School for many years. Dr. Ford was committed to serving all people of our community through his involvement with Meals on Wheels and the Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity. An avid golfer, Dr. Ford was a member of Briarwood Country Club where he served two terms as president of the board of directors.
Survivors include his wife, Edna B. Ford of Meridian; two daughters, Dottie Dudley and her husband, Larry, of Meridian and Harriet McCamey and her husband, Mike, of Ocean Springs; a son, Kinnie Ford III, and his wife, Amy, of Meridian; two stepdaughters, Olivia Reese and her husband, Hal, of Calhoun City and Beth Jackson and her husband, Tommy, of Preston; a sister, Rosalaine Hall of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Robert M. Ford, and his wife, Ann, of Memphis; grandchildren, Jason Dudley, Leah Dudley Reed and her husband, Elton, Semmes Ford, and Adeline Ford, all of Meridian, and Jennifer McCamey Bond and her husband, Lee, and Nancy McCamey of Ocean Springs, and Allison McCamey of Athens, Ga.; five stepgrandchildren, Edie Montalvo and her husband, Ray, of McComb, Caroline Gilder and her husband, Jefferson, of Memphis, Ben Reese of Calhoun City, Jennifer Jackson Bond and her husband, Chad, of Hickory, and Leigh Jackson of Preston; two great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy McMaster Ford.
Active pallbearers will be Lawrence Rabb, Phil Davis, Dick Mosley and grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church Crusader Sunday School Class, Don Adler, Bill Wood, Natalie Wood, Jack Medlin and Al Gartin.
The family requests memorials be made to Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church.
PHILADELPHIA Services for Mamie Warren will be held today at 2 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. John Stephens and Kent Turner officiating. Burial will be in Ocobla Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Warren, 93, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. She was a retired employee of Neshoba Central School cafeteria.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Jenkins; two sons, Jerome Warren and Mickey Warren; two sisters, Katherine Alderman and Mattie Bell Franklin; and a brother, Jack Thrash, all of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Roosevelt Griffin will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Rush officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Latimer Metropolitan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Griffin, 80, of Preston, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Griffin; two daughters, Endia Grace Griffin and Nellie Windham, all of Preston; and three brothers, Britten Griffin of New Orleans, Johnny Robert Griffin of Preston and Melvin Earl Huston of Atlanta.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
