Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Festival dates scheduled

The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation announced the following schedule of events Friday for the 2003 Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Festival:
March 15: Jimmie Rodgers entertainers will perform a skit and musical entertainment at 3:30 p.m. during the Home Show at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. For more information, call Al Brown at 693-1103.
April 5 and 6: The Jimmie Rodgers Talent Contest will be held in conjunction with Arts in the Park in Highland Park. The youth contest will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 5. The adult contest will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 6. For more information, call the Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau at 482-8001 or the Meridian Council for the Arts at 485-1944.
April 18: Radio station WOKK and the festival will present Blake Shelton and Joe Nichols in concert at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center. Tickets go on sale today at the WOKK booth in Bonita Lakes Mall. Tickets are $12 in advance for adults, $15 at the door and $8 for children under 12. After Tuesday, tickets will be available at the Music Emporium and Good Vibrations. For more information, call WOKK at 693-2661.
May 4: Pickin' in the Plaza will be at Dumont Plaza an opportunity for country and bluegrass musicians to gather and play music. There is no charge, but participants must sign up for a time to play. Music is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. For more information, call Mike Brown at 696-7184.
May 8: The annual Jimmie Rodgers Golf Tournament will be at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. For more information, call George Polizzi at 693-1103.
May 8: A gospel concert featuring The McKamey's and The Inspirations will be at 7 p.m. at Northcrest Baptist Church. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, call Richard Ferguson at 677-2844 or the church at 482-3498.
May 9 and 10: Concerts will be at Singing Brakeman Park in the Union Station Complex. Meridian native Steve Forbert is scheduled to open the concert May 10. Other performers will be announced at a later date.
