Thompson leaves for Georgia job

A key economic development leader is leaving Meridian next month for a job in Georgia.
Frank Thompson, East Mississippi Business Development Corp.'s manager of business development, will work through the end of next week in Meridian before leaving for his new home in Douglas, Ga.
There, Thompson will serve as president of the Douglas/Coffee County Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the industrial authority.
Thompson's departure means the EMBDC will lose a key player who has been involved in such projects as the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center, Grand Opera House restoration and the Interstate 20/59 Industrial Park.
Wade Jones, EMBDC president, said Thompson has played a vital role. Said Jones: "Frank's move to Georgia is certainly their gain and our loss. He has left a big mark on this community."
Thompson, a Lauderdale County native, said one of the downsides to moving is not being able to see the completion of projects on which he has worked.
