GREENVILLE Lindsay Roy is one of the top girls' basketball players in Mississippi.
She made believers of Kemper Academy Friday afternoon as her 33 points nearly matched the Lady Rams' total output as Delta Academy cruised to a 63-38 victory in the MPSA Class A State Tournament.
Roy, a 5-foot-9 junior, converted four old-fashioned three-point plays and hit three baskets from three-point range in the first half alone.
Roy was taken out with 6:47 left in the game to rest for today's championship battle with Riverdale Academy, a 79-56 victor over Strider Academy in Friday's other semifinal.
With only 2:54 left in the game, Kemper finally surpassed Roy's 33 points when Libby Myers hit a three-point basket.
As impressive as Roy's performance was, it wasn't anything new to the Delta folks.
As a sophomore, Roy hit 59.8 percent of her three-pointers (82-of-137) and 89.7 percent of her free throws (244-of-272) as Delta finished 46-2.
She is reportedly high on Ole Miss' recruiting list for the 2004-05 season.
Roy had 11 points in the first quarter as Delta turned a 4-3 deficit into a 20-10 lead.
A 9-0 run extended Delta's lead to 18-6 and Kemper never got back to within single digits the rest of the afternoon.
A dozen more points by Roy in the second quarter sent the Lady Trojans into halftime with a 37-16 advantage.
Roy added eight more points in the third quarter as Delta led 50-27 heading into the final period.
The Lady Trojans, who started one junior, three sophomores, and a freshman, took their largest lead of the game at 63-29, with just over five minutes left.
Kemper closed the game with a 9-0 run as Leslie Beach, Myers, and Jodi Darnell each hit a three-pointer.
Blair Johnson led Kemper with nine points, despite picking up three fouls in the first quarter.
Beach added seven points for the Lady Rams, while Eve Darnell and Megan Whitaker both scored six.
Kemper (24-11) takes on Strider today at 1 p.m. in the consolation game. All four teams will advance to next week's Overall Tournament at Mississippi College.
In addition to Roy's 33-point effort, Delta (40-3) also got 13 points from Megan Green, nine from Sarah Grace Long, and six from Christi Bland.
Riverdale, La. 79
Strider 56
Riverdale, located in East Point, La., stayed unbeaten with the 23-point win in the early semifinal.
The Lady Rebels (38-0) outscored Strider 43-30 in the second half to pad a 10-point halftime lead.
