Meridian guardsmen called to active duty

JACKSON (AP) About six members of the Mississippi Air National Guard have been called to active duty as part of the troop buildup in anticipation of war with Iraq.
The airmen, with the 238th Air Support Operations in Meridian were to report today to Fort Campbell, Ky., where they will join the 19th Air Support Operations Squadron, said Lt. Col. Randy Pope at Key Field.
After training, the unit will be deployed to an undisclosed location overseas. The 238th coordinates close air support with ground troops between Air Force and Army combat units.
Under the Presidential Partial Mobilization order, the unit could be activated for up to 24 months.
