Students learned about the real world Thursday at a career fair sponsored by Meridian High School.
Representatives and recruiters from more than 35 businesses and schools set up tables in the school gym to talk about their professions with students.
Representatives from a variety of fields including food technicians, park rangers, the U.S. Army, the American Library Association, attorneys, cosmetologists, nursing services and sports medicine met with students.
The event was organized by Ross Collins Career and Technical Center and Meridian High School counselors. It was held in conjunction with National Vocational Technical Week.
Students said they were interested in the variety of careers presented and thought they made some significant connections especially with college recruiters.
Sophomore Jessica Hawn said she thinks the career fair is a good way to see what opportunities are available. Hawn, 15, plans to attend Meridian Community College after graduation, but is undecided on a major.
At least one student thought the career fair came up short. Amanda Todd, 16, said she wanted to learn more about dentistry but it was not represented at the event.
