He also served in the Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., when the first United States satellite was launched. Under Army orders, he obtained a master's degree in industrial management at Babson College Wellesley Hills, Mass.

After a tour in France, where he taught part-time with the University of Maryland, and a tour in Washington, D.C., he retired from the Army on Jan. 1, 1968, as a lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Sims began working with Ingalls Shipbuilding, Division of Litton Industries, on Feb. 13, 1968, as assistant to the director of procurement.
He advanced through management to become director of procurement in 1978. He was a member of the National Contract Management Association and was inducted as a fellow in 1993. He retired from Ingalls after more than 25 years on Feb. 12, 1993.
He was listed in Marquis Who's Who in South and Southwest 22nd Edition (1991-1992). He was ordained as a deacon in his home church of Beulah Baptist in Newton County in 1948 and served faithfully as a deacon in several churches where he was stationed in the Army and for several terms at First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, where he was chairman on several occasions. He also taught Sunday school in various churches and is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruby Pearl Sims; daughters, Gloria Jean McCarthy and her husband, Jim, Judy Ann MacInnis, Janet Lea Phifer and her husband, Ellis; eight grandchildren, J.J. Cleveland and his wife, Brecca, of New Orleans, Candy Ann Lehman and her husband, David, of Houston, Texas, Tracie Lynn Cleveland of Ocean Springs, Margaret Jean McCarthy, Thomas Sims McCarthy, Edward James McCarthy of Ottawa, Canada, Lauren Michelle Phifer and Arron Ellis Phifer of Austin, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Weldon Cleveland, Timothy Brooks Cleveland, and Mackenzie Ann Lehman; three brothers, George Sims of West Palm Beach, Fla., Alton Sims and his wife, Ruth, of Jackson and Gary Sims and his wife, Barbara, of Meridian; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Clifton Reynolds will be held today at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Vernon Phillips, Chris Wells and Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in the House Community of Neshoba County.
Mr. Reynolds, 90, of Union, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, in his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Dennis Reynolds of Union; a daughter, Candes Reynolds Rash of Union; four grandchildren; brothers, Henry Nelson Reynolds and Harold Kenneth Nelson, both of Union.

Infant Miller died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, in Mobile.

Mrs. Lavender, 87, of Livingston, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at King's Daughters and Sons Rest Home.

Mr. Fortenberry, 32, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, in Winston County.
Survivors include his father, Howard Fortenberry Sr. of Houston, Texas; grandmother, Irene Fortenberry of Philadelphia; a sister, Maria Fortenberry of Houston; and a brother, Howard Yates Fortenberry Jr. of Houston.

Mrs. Carson, 85, of Meridian, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She loved dancing and was the former director and choreographer of Meridian Youth Theater and was a former dance instructor at Mary Alfa School of Dance.
She was a member of Meridian High School Band Booster and Lions All-State Band and worked with Meridian Swim Association for more than 35 years. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol C. Long and her husband, Frank, and Louise Ivy and her husband, Gene, all of Meridian; sons, Michael R. Carson of Meridian and Donald J. Carson and his wife, Susan, of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carson; two brothers, Nelson and Fred Bullock.
