Waste management

So many problems continue to exist in the city of Meridian's relationship with Waste Management that it may be time for another comprehensive review of the contract. We say another because, presumably, this was done the last time the city and Waste Management negotiated.
Residents' complaints apparently are flooding city hall, but the mayor and councilmen seem powerless to do much to stop them. And, the paltry fines levied against Waste Management in certain instances aren't getting the attention of this multibillion dollar company.
Garbage pick-up is a basic function of city government, whether it is done by contract or by city workers. Maybe it's time to revisit the structure of a system that seems to be less than efficient in its fundamental mission.
