The American Soap Box Derby Association is gearing up for another season of racing. The Meridian chapter, Queen City Soap Box Derby, is ready for contestants to get the building process underway.
QCSBD Director Danny Hill is responsible for bring ing the soap box derby back to the Meridian area. Last year the division saw 16 participants race down the streets of downtown Meridian.
Hill hopes to have more participants running in this year's race.
There are two divisions for boys and girls between the ages of nine and 16 to enter. The first division, stock class, will be for boys and girls up to 115-pounds. The super stock division is for kids up to 145-pounds.
In order to race in the event, children interested must find a sponsor in order for a a car kit to be ordered.
The winner of the race will represent Meridian by earning an opportunity for him/her and his/her family to go to Akron, Ohio and compete in the American Soap Box Derby Association Championship. There will be over 550 cities represented at the July event.
Because the stock cars have to be ordered, Hill requests that those interested find a sponsor as soon as possible. The cut-off time for finding a sponsor and ordering derbies is mid-March.
Those interested should contact Danny Hill at H&H Speciality at 483-2090 or at his home at 737-4261.
