An East Mississippi Correctional Facility inmate found dead in his cell Monday apparently choked on his breakfast.
The death of Kennis Ussery, 37, was determined to be accidental according to Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. The report said the inmate died from choking on food.
Calhoun did not know where Ussery was from or how long he had been in prison. He said Ussery was serving an eight-year sentence for forgery.
Ussery was found unconscious in his cell about 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Attempts by the prison's medical staff to revive him were unsuccessful.
