Fred Brashier, principal of Poplar Springs Elementary School, said Monday he will retire from the school district effective June 30.
Brashier, 53, is in his fifth year as principal of Poplar Springs. He submitted his resignation to the school board last week.
Brashier said he has worked at 10 different schools during his 30 years with the Meridian Public School District including several principals' positions. He also taught driver's education and coached football, baseball and tennis.
He said he submitted his resignation now, rather than later, to ensure that school officials have adequate time to find a replacement.
Brashier said he is looking into job possibilities, but declined to go into specifics.
Superintendent Janet McLin said she has not spoken to Brashier about his decision, but that he did attempt to see her last week.
