The newly-elected president of the Lauderdale County chapter of the NAACP said Thursday that one of his top goals in his first year is bringing the community together.
Walter Patton, elected in November to succeed longtime president Obie Clark, said people have to join together to move forward.
Patton said he also wants to focus on education and will push for teacher pay raises.
Patton said the toughest part of his new job will be replacing Clark, who served as the organization's president for more than 30 years. Patton said he knows he's got some huge shoes to fill.
