Meridian falls in OT heartbreaker, 3-2

Meridian High traveled to Brandon Tuesday to attempt and clinch a state playoff spot in girls soccer action, but lost in overtime 3-2.
Meridian led at halftime 2-0 before Brandon came back in the final period of regular play to tie the game at 2-2. It then took Brandon until the second overtime to complete the comeback.
Leanna Baldner scored both goals for Meridian.
Clarkdale boys soccer 6
Philadelphia 2
Clarkdale improved to 9-1 and a perfect 6-0 in their division with a 6-2 win over Philadelphia Tuesday night. Clarkdale was lead on the field by David Prewitt, who had two goals and three assists.
Jake Gray and Justin Culpepper each added two goals each for the Bulldogs and Jonathan Pickett added two assists.
Clarkdale returns to action at Southeast Lauderdale on Thursday at 4:30. p.m.

Kemper Academy girls 57
Macon Central 39
Macon Central fell to Kemper Academy on the road and drops to 14-10 on the season. Junior Leslie Beach had 17 points for Kemper Academy and Megan Stokes had 25 points and 19 rebounds for Macon Central.
Heidelberg girls 55
Newton Co. 53
After Newton County fell down early to Heidelberg 22-13, the Lady Cougars came back to take the lead at the end of the third quarter 42-40. Heidelberg outscored Newton Co. by four in th final period to claim the victory. Kristen Chaney led Newton Co. with 22 points.
South Choctaw girls 47
Patrician Academy girls 35
Angela Johnson and Christy Clark both scored 10 points for South Choctaw while Kristin Andrews scored nine points to lead Patrician Academy.
Patrician Academy boys 63
South Choctaw 56
Travis Avate and Brian Anderson scored 10 and 11 points respectively in the Patrician Academy victory. The win pulls Patrician to 7-7 on the season while South Choctaw falls to 7-5. Patrician Academy will be back in action against Clark Prep in Butler on Friday.
Wayne County 68
Quitman boys 57
Detric Slater scored 30 points and Akeem Lofton scored 20 points for Wayne County in Tuesday night action. After holding the Panthers to 28 first half points, Jonathan McCarty, 12 points, and Brandon Lee, 12 points, attempted to get Quitman back in the game, but the lead was too large.

Quitman girls 43
Wayne County also won the girls game with the help of Carla Bartee who chipped in 30 points. Natasha Worsham also added 14. Kemonica McGee and Shaquilla Mack added 15 and 12 points for Quitman respectively.
West Lauderdale girls 85
Carthage 38
The Lady Knights held Carthage to single digits in three of four quarters to seal the blow out Tuesday night. Kristina Gardner led the Lady Knights with 22 points.
J.J. Huggins, Vankeila Wilson and Patty Monroe all added 11 points each.
The Lady Knights improve to 19-2 overall and 6-0 in division play.
West Lauderdale Boys 96
Carthage 64
Calvin Moore had 26 points for the Knights (18-2, 5-1) and Boo Ramsey added 19 points as the Knights won with ease over Carthage Tuesday.
Nanih Waiya 49
Clarkdale girls 48
Danielle Gaddis scored 25 points for the Lady Bulldogs in the one point loss. Leading Nanih Waiya were Christy Hickman, 14 points and Heather Steele with 12 points.
