Central takes down Starkville Academy

A free throw by Angie Bennett with no time left in overtime lifted Central Macon Academy to a 56-55 win over Starkville Academy on Thursday night. The win improves Central to 12-7 on the season.
Megan Stokes powered Central with 24 points and 29 rebounds. Olivia Reed chipped in 12 points. Linley Simpson had six points and seven assists.
Peresia Tianni led Starkville with 29 points. The two teams battled to a 21-21 tie at the half. It was 32-30 Central after three quarters. Starkville scored 20 in the fourth quarter to tie it at 50-50 at the end of regulation.
Heidelberg boys 61
Bay Springs 54
Heidelberg took a 61-54 win over Bay Springs on Thursday night. The Oilers improve to 5-7 with the win.
Andre Stephens, a 6-6 post, led the way with 16 points. Jesse Yates had 11 points and Michael Johnson added 10.
Kenley Farrell tossed in 16 points for Bay Springs while Reggie Shelwood had 13.
Bay Springs girls 71
Heidelberg 52
Bay Springs remained unbeaten in girls play after romping past Heidelberg 71-52 on Thursday night.
Bay Springs is now 10-0 on the season. Heidelberg falls to 3-10.
Princess Bender led Heidelberg with 17 points and Shawana Stevens had 12. Brittany Martin led Bay Springs with 22 points and Nadosha Strickland had 18. Bay Springs led 42-22 at the half. The same two teams will meet after Christmas in the Bay Springs Round Robin Tournament.
Hickory Flat 93
Kemper County 89
Lamar Sanders tossed in 28 points to lead Hickory Flat past Kemper County 93-89 on Thursday night in the Columbus Christmas Classic.
Hickory Flat is now 14-5 on the season while Kemper County falls to 6-6.
Gary Griffin led Kemper County with 27 points while Terrance Westerfield had 25 points and Rodricus Hopson chipped in 19. Daniel Tatum added 16 for Hickory Flat.
