For a young lady who recently endured 18 chemotherapy treatments, 14-year-old Amanda Wyatt shows no loss of enthusiasm for her favorite outdoor sport deer hunting.
The Moundville, Ala., teen was in the Meridian area last weekend for the opening day of Mississippi's gun deer season.
Wyatt was a guest hunter at Camp Opportunity near Duffee, a hunting club leased and maintained by the National Wild Turkey Federation and Wheelin' Sportsmen of America for use by ill and disabled people.
This active youngster, accompanied by her parents Michael and Sherry Wyatt, enjoyed hunting, gifts of outdoor gear, good food and fellowship with a dozen other hunters at Camp Opportunity.
Lee McDonald manages the property, keeping the camp house, deer stands and green patches in top shape for his special guests.
Any disabled or seriously ill person who needs assistance when hunting is welcome to hunt at Camp Opportunity free of charge. Simply call McDonald at (601) 986-4777.
Wyatt missed many school days after losing a kidney and part of her diaphragm in life-saving cancer surgery, but still maintains honor roll status as a ninth-grader.
