Two Lady Raiders among first all-stars

Two Lamar School seniors were chosen to play in the first-ever MPSA girls soccers All-Star game at Mississippi College in Clinton.
Lisa Swartzfager and Brittany Sherrill both started for the MPSA White team. The pair teamed up for the White's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Blues. Swartzgager made the boot with the assist coming from Sherrill.
Afterwards, Swartzfager was named the Most Valuable Player for her team. Then, last Tuesday, Swartzfager was named the Clarion-Ledger's statewide girl athlete of the the week.
Lamar head soccer coach Eddie Escobar calls Swartzfager the key to his team that finished 10-4-1 this season. The Lady Raiders' season ended with a 3-2 loss to Pillow in Greenwood in the MPSA soccer semifinal game.
Sherrill was Lamar School's other senior and was selected to play with Swartzfager in the all-star game.
On her goal, Swartzfager said she just saw an opening.
She had a bigger game against Washington School scoring two goals in a 5-0 first round playoff win at Northeast Park.
Swartzfager also runs for Coach Ed Abdella's cross country team. The state meet will be later this month.
Last spring, Swartzfager was the state runner-up in the Academy AA girls singles division. She helped Lamar win the South State AA title at Northeast Tennis Complex.
Right now, Swartzfager doesn't know where she will go or if she will play any sports in college.
Escobar is working on getting her something in soccer.
Swartzfager says she likes Birmingham Southern, but doesn't know if she'll compete in athletics.
Sherrill played right-midfield for the Lady Raiders. She liked how the team came together.
Sherrill said she is still undecided about her future plans next fall.
