The Mississippi Association of School Superintendents recently announced that Katie Arthur, a 2002 Honor Graduate of Union High School, is one of only four students in the state honored with a scholarship given by their association.
Don Brantley, superintendent of Union Public Schools, nominated Arthur for the award based on her outstanding academic achievements.
Arthur, daughter of Cole and Jan Arthur, was Union's 2002 salutatorian and a member of the Hall of Fame.
CLINTON Mississippi College is pleased to announce that the following students from Meridian, Lauderdale County and surrounding areas have been accepted for admission: Carrie Elizabeth Jones, of Meridian; Dustin Craig Hedgpeth, of Meridian; Blake Murphy Chance, of Lauderdale; Cayce Ann Bond, of Hickory; Justin Alan Qualls, of Lauderdale; Reba LaNese Beard, of Meridian; and Adam Thomas Ainsworth, of Meridian.

Thomas McCarver Rayburn and Michael Gordon Mason, both of Meridian, graduated from the University of Mississippi at the conclusion of the summer term.
Bob Harmon of Bailey has been awarded the Garden Clubs of Mississippi Scholarship and the Susan Jordan Endowed Memorial Scholarship, totaling $2,250 and $900, to Mississippi State University. Harmon, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Harmon, is a 2000 Graduate of West Lauderdale High School and an East Mississippi Community College transfer student.
Cynthia Cole Peace, a 1985 graduate of Clinton High School, received a bachelor's degree in arts from Columbia College in Forth Worth, Texas. Cynthia is the daughter of Sandra Hill of Clinton and Virgil Cole Jr. of Meridian.
Anthony E. DeVaughn of Meridian is among 12 graduates of the 2002 Engineering Quest Program at Mississippi State University. DeVaughn attends the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus. He previously was a student at Clarkdale Attendance Center.
