A Lauderdale County teen-ager died at a local hospital Sunday after he apparently lost control of his sports utility vehicle and wrecked on Suqualena Road.
Police officials said James Gee, 17, lost control of his 1995 Isuzu Rodeo about 5 p.m. Sunday. Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Gee was ejected from the vehicle and the SUV "apparently rolled over and came to rest partially on top of him.
Gee was not wearing a seatbelt, Calhoun said, adding "it appears at this time that speed was a factor."
After volunteer firefighters with the Suqualena Volunteer Fire Department freed Gee from the wreckage, he was transported to Rush Foundation Hospital. Lauderdale County Coroner Marl Cobler said he died at the hospital around 8 p.m.
The accident is under investigation.
