MJGA tourney at BCC successful

The Mississippi Junior Golf Association held one of its four statewide tournaments at Briarwood Country Club on Thursday.
Briarwood pro and tournament director Rob McGraw said it was one of the largest fields he's ever had to deal with.
The round of the day was shot by Nick Beale, who won the A Group with a one-under-par 71. The round was one stroke better than Chase Howell who had an even-par 72.
Austin Bowen and Michael Elroy tied for third with one-over 73s. Lamar School's Winston Powell was fifth at 74. Powell played in the State Amateur last week at Canebrake in Hattiesburg.
Lamar's Derrick Smith was eighth at 80.
The B Group winner was Michael Gregory who had a five-over 77. Rivers Braham was second at 79 while Ross McWilliams was third at 79.
The C Group winner in Jonathan Randolph shot an impressive even-par 72. Freddie Janneck was second at 74 followed by Lamar's Clay Bounds who had a 75.
The D group saw Joseph Henderson shoot a 38 for the win. Bennet Ruschewski was second at 41. The E group was won by Chad Ramey with a 21.
In the girls 13-17 division, Leigh Phillips of Lamar fired an 82 for the win. Stephanie Beale was second at 89 and Emily Parker third at 91. The 9-and-under girls was won by Rachel Snell at 37.
