Supervisors continue redistricting work

Lauderdale County supervisors could decide within the next two weeks how they will redraw their own districts for the next 10 years including the 2003 elections.
Supervisors continued to work on their redistricting plan at a work session Wednesday.
They discussed two proposed maps they have been considering for weeks. They also discussed a third map, which combined features from the original two.
They did not approve a final plan.
Supervisors redraw their district lines every 10 years to reflect shifts in population, based on the latest statistics from the U.S. Census.
Besides their districts, supervisors also must redraw county school board, justice court, election commission and constable districts.
The new districts will be used in the 2003 elections for supervisors, justice court judges and constables.
