Angels of mercy'
To the editor:
Attention all nurses: So many times we wish to express our appreciation to others for something special they have done, but we just don't take the time or can't seem to find the words that are adequate, so we take for granted that they know we do appreciate them, but never say it.
I would like to take the time by this letter to try and correct that error, though my words will be inadequate, to really express our heartfelt thanks. Here is my attempt to rectify the oversight.
To all the nursing staff on the 4th floor East at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center that helped treat my wife, Lura Margaret Campbell, the last 10 months during her illness we would like to say thanks.
Margaret was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2001, and from that time until she lost the battle on Feb. 16, 2002, she was in and out of the hospital so many times that we got to know just about everyone by their first names.
We just want to say how much we appreciate the great care you gave Margaret. How much we appreciate the concern you expressed and the interest you showed in Margaret as a person, noticing something as simple as what she was wearing or the color of her nails. But above all, we appreciate your patience as we all struggled to cope during those long months. You all made Margaret and the family feel so good with the tender loving care that you showed to us. You made her feel like she was such a special patient and person. You gave her the love, respect and kindness that helped make the best of a difficult illness. You were a ray of sunshine when you would come into her room with a big smile, a cheerful greeting and many times a big hug. You are Angels of Mercy, and I think Margaret may have been visited by a real Angel or two during the wee hours of the morning some of those long, restless nights that she had to endure during her illness.
We will never forget you and the help and comfort you gave us during this time. A special thanks, and may God be with you.
