Clarkdale girls find Sweet Water to their liking

One day after nearly pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the state this basketball season, the Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 58-27 rout of the Sweet Water (Ala.) Lady Bulldogs Saturday at CHS.
Sweet Water won the boys' contest 62-48.
The Clarkdale girls nearly knocked off Scott Central Friday night, losing 51-50 when a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer failed to go down. Against Sweet Water, coach Jeff Davis' girls would not be denied.
Clarkdale led 19-5 after one quarter and took a 28-17 lead into halftime. A 21-2 advantage in the third quarter upped Clarkdale's lead to 49-19 heading into the final period.
Clarkdale, 7-15, got 20 points from Danielle Gaddis, nine from JorD'an Orr, eight from Tamara Brown, and six from Misti Alexander.
Toni Wilson led Sweet Water with 10 points. Lolita Young scored eight and Martine Landrum had six.

The Sweet Water Bulldogs outscored Clarkdale in all four quarters of Saturday's contest at CHS.
Sweet Water led 16-8 after one period and took a 30-20 lead into halftime. The Alabamans led 42-26 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter only to have Clarkdale rally to within 43-33 with 35 seconds left in the third period on a 3-pointer from Michael Steele.
Sweet Water got a loose ball basket to end the third quarter with a 45-33 advantage.
A pair of free throws by Brandon Waters with 1:30 to play gave Sweet Water its biggest lead at 62-40.
Clarkdale, 6-16, got 14 points from Bryant Gaddis, 13 from Rocky Kirksey, and 10 from Brandon Mabry.
Sweet Water, 10-8, got 21 points from Tony Lockett, 18 from Travis Gaines, and 10 from Waters.

Scott Central pounded Clarkdale 82-32 at Scott Central on Nov. 20, but was happy to escape the rematch with the win as a game-winning attempt by the Lady Bulldogs didn't connect as time ran out Friday night.
Clarkdale led 19-17 after one quarter and carried a 35-29 lead into halftime. The Lady Rebels used an 18-8 advantage in the third quarter to take a 47-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
Clarkdale, which fell to 6-15 overall and 0-7 in Division 5-2A, got 16 points from Brown, 12 from Gaddis, eight from Felicia Kirksey, and seven each from Alexander and Orr.
Scott Central, 16-9 and 4-2, got 18 points from Britney Burks, 14 from Kattie Nickson, 10 from Elyse Clay, and nine from Marquita Anderson.

Scott Central outscored Clarkdale 21-12 in the fourth quarter to take Friday's Division 5-2A contest at Clarkdale.
Clarkdale led 14-13 after one quarter only to have the Rebels take a 32-30 lead into halftime. The contest was deadlocked at 48-48 to start the final period.
Clarkdale, 6-15 overall and 1-6 in 5-2A, got 17 points from Gaddis, 15 from Mabry, eight from Kirksey, and seven apiece from Matt Tucker and Quinton Walker.
Scott Central, 4-13 and 1-5, was led by Roderick Loper's 23 points, 10 of which came in the first quarter. Cedric Gray tossed in 20, McHandy Bobbitt scored 12, and Courtney McClendon added 11.
