Deadline extended for Veterans Day Parade
The deadline to register for the Veterans Day Parade has been extended until Friday. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Nov. 11. Applications are available at Ken Storms' office in Meridian City Hall, 601 24th Ave.
Fax your request to 485-1911. There is no fee to enter the parade.
Boil water notice issued
A boil water notice is in place for customers of Central Water Association Well Division Southwest.
The notice was issued as a precaution because of the loss of two old wells at the water plants. Although the water has been treated, customers are advised to boil it vigorously for one minute before consuming.
For information, call the water office at 656-6171.
Twin Districts Workforce elects officers
The Twin Districts Workforce Area had its annual Chief Local Elected Officials board meeting in Philadelphia last month.
The elected officials board is comprised of one representative from each of the 19 county boards of supervisors within the Twin Districts Workforce Area. Counties include Leake, Neshoba, Kemper, Scott, Newton, Lauderdale, Smith, Jasper, Clarke, Jefferson Davis, Covington, Jones, Wayne, Marion, Lamar, Forrest, Perry, Greene and Pearl River.
The board oversees responsibility for financial and programmatic activities outlined in the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. The act increased services to job seekers and employers.
Lynn Cartlidge of Forrest County was re-elected as chairman of the board and Johnny Johnson of Jones County was re-elected as vice-chairman.
