Make a Difference to hold fishing derby
Make a Difference Day Fishing Derby is being held on Oct. 20. This is a special event for special people. Registration will be held at 7:30 a.m. with fishing to begin at 8:00. The fishing derby will be held at Airpark Pond on Highway 19 South.
Youth ages 7-17, handicapped (individuals who require assistance) and senior citizens ages 70 and older are encouraged to attend.
Bait is provided but participants are asked to bring their own reels if possible as there will be a limited supply of reels available. Lunch, entertainment, activities, prizes and goody bags will be given.
If you are not eligible to fish, you are needed as volunteers. For more information call Sherry Hazelwood coordinator at 656-5003.
Make a Difference Day Fishing Derby is sponsored by 4-H, Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and the Futura Club.
Meridian Park sets basketball signups
Meridian Parks and Recreation announces registration for adult slow and fast break basketball.
The registration fee is $ 225. per team. Registration is now through Oct. 31, at the Parks and Recreation office at Highland Park. For more information call 485-1803.
Crimson Tide to hold Softball Thanksgiving Clinic
University of Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy and assistant coaches Vann Stuedeman and Alyson Habetz will conduct a fastpitch softball Clinic on Nov. 24-25. Formerly known as the Christmas Holiday clinics, this year's sessions have been moved to the Thanksgiving holiday.
The clinics will cover all fast pitch fundamentals, including hitting, pitching, throwing, fielding, and base running.
