Lady Cougars rock Choctaw Central, 17-0

Newton County cranked out 17 hits and scored 17 runs in taking a Region 5-3A win at Choctaw Central Tuesday.
In the 17-0 victory, Newton County's Suzanne Chaney tossed a one-hitter to up her record to 9-0.
The Lady Cougars scored six runs in both the first and third frames in improving to 2-0 in 5-3A and 9-0 overall.
Betsy Clark went 3-for-3 for Newton County to up her season's average to a sizzling .655. Kristin Chaney had three hits including a double. Krissi Harris and Joy Cavenaugh both had a single and a double. Sylendria Johnson added two singles and a sacrifice fly.
Jenny Tubby took the loss for the Lady Warriors.
Newton County's game with Neshoba Central originally scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until Sept. 17 due to wet grounds at Neshoba Central.
In other action Tuesday, Philadelphia lost a 6-4 Region 5-3A contest at Carthage to fall to 7-6 on the year.
Meridian's game with Northeast Lauderdale at Northeast Park Tuesday night was rained out as was West Lauderdale's Region 5-3A game at Southeast Lauderdale. Newton's game at Lake was also rained out.
