Red Bay Water Park opens for the summer

Franklin County residents who are looking for a cool place to escape the hot temperatures characteristic of Alabama summertime can seek refuge at the Red Bay Water Park, which opened for the summer season this past weekend.
According to Red Bay Park and Recreations Director Mike Shewbart, the park features one tall, straight slide; one tall, curved slide; four small slides and four pools.
“The Red Bay Water Park is a great and unique place for county residents to spend their time this summer,” Shewbart said. “We’ve been working on getting the park ready throughout the winter and spring seasons and we had a great opening this past weekend.”
The cost of attending the park is $8 per day for a single pass, $75 for a season pass, or $200 for a family of four season pass. Lockers are available for $1 per day or $25 for the season.
The water park will be open to the public on Monday through Saturday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The park is also available for private parties on Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Rates for private parties are $200 for the first 25 swimmers and $5 for each additional swimmer. Partygoers who are not swimming will not be charged.
Shewbart said certified lifeguards are on duty at all times at the park but anyone under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
“We’re going to have some aerobics classes that will be starting soon and we’ll have more information about those classes in the coming weeks,” he said.
“We’ll also have a few night swim dates as well.”
Shewbart said to stay up-to-date on what’s happening at the water park, people can follow Red Bay ParkandRec on Facebook, check redbaysports.com or the calendar section of the Franklin County Times.
“We’re excited about the summer season at the Red Bay Water Park,” Shewbart said. “We look forward to seeing everyone this year.”
For additional information about the Red Bay Water Park or to book private parties, contact Shewbart at 256-810-1263 or the Red Bay Park and Rec Department at 256-356-4473, ext. 6.
