Relay For Life moved indoors

Due to forecasted rain and thunderstorms, the 2013 Franklin County Relay For Life will be held indoors tomorrow evening, May 3, at the Russellville Middle School gymnasium.

Megan Lovelace, a community representative with the American Cancer Society, said all activities will still be held as scheduled with opening ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. with the Survivors’ and Caregivers’ laps inside the gym.

Lovelace said even though the event will be indoors, teams will still be able to bring tents to set up, food and any on-site fundraisers.

“We hated to have to move the event indoors but we believed it would be the best and safest idea for everyone involved given the weather forecast,” Lovelace said.

“It might be a little bit more crowded, but we will still have a fun evening full of entertainment and events.”

Lovelace said the entertainment by Rewind would go on as scheduled as well as the Luminaria Ceremony, which will take place at 9 p.m.

Luminary bags in honor or in memory of those who have battled cancer will be set up downstairs as well as the upstairs walking track, which is where most of the walking will take place.

“We hope everyone in the community will still come out and support this wonderful event and all of our wonderful survivors,” Lovelace said.

“Franklin County always shows such passion and heart for this event every year and we don’t want a little rain to get in the way of that.”

Schedule of events:

7 p.m. – Survivor and Caregiver laps
7:30 – 9 p.m. – Entertainment by Rewind
9 – 9:30 p.m. – Luminaria Ceremony
9:30 – 10 p.m. – Zumba with Curves

10:30 – 11:30 p.m. – Relay Idol competition
