RHS volleyball wins 2
The Golden Tigers opened the volleyball season with two wins on Aug. 20 as head coach Madison Lamon’s team looks to build on last year’s success.
RHS traveled to East Lawrence High School for a tri-match versus the Eagles and the Elkmont Red Devils. The Golden Tigers swept both schools, getting 2-0 wins in both matches.
Russellville defeated East Lawrence in a close match with scores of 25-23 and 25-23.
During the first set, Brookelynn Davis, Samantha Wilson and Bri McCulloch had two kills each, while Blevyn Sappington and Bella Malone had one apiece.
Erin Grimes had three assists and Alexia Groce and McCulloch added one each.
GrimesandMcCulloch led the team with six digs apiece and Sappington had four. Groce and Davis added three digs apiece.
Malone had one block for the Golden Tigers.
In the second set, Wilson had four kills, Groce added three and Malonehadtwo.Adaleigh Smith and Sappington added one kill apiece.
Grimes had five assists while Groce, Sappington and McCulloch had one each.
Groce and McCulloch had five digs each. Davis and Grimes added four apiece, and Sappington had three. Wilson and Smith had one dig apiece.
Wilson had both of RHS’s blocks and Sappington added three aces.
The Golden Tigers topped Elkmont by scores of 25-17 and 26-24.
The first set leaders in assists were Groce and Smith with three each. Smith also had three aces. McCulloch led RHS with five digs.
During the second set, Sappington led the team with four kills. Groce and Smith had three assists each and Sappington served one ace.
McCulloch was solid on defense with eight digs while Groce followed closely with seven. Malone led the Golden Tigers with two blocks, and Wilson had one during the second set.
