Golden Tigers split contests with Belgreen

The Russellville Golden Tigers visited the Belgreen Bulldogs and each school picked up a win.

Russellville’s girls defeated Belgreen by a final score of 72-62, and the Bulldogs earned a 45-38 win in the boys’ game.

Ella Copeland led the RHS girls to victory by reaching the 1,500-career points mark. The junior led all scorers with 31 points versus Belgreen.

Also scoring double figures for the Lady Tigers were Angeleah Smith and Laila Hill with 12 points each and Sadie Odom with 10. Kaylee Suggs added three points while Alexia Groce and Bella Malone had two points apiece.

Belgreen’s Randi Terry had 18 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Jemma Moore scored 12, Lillianna Willingham had nine, Makenna Fisher added eight, and Lily Green scored four. Isabella Tate, Mackinley Hogan and Marnie Terry had three points each, and Carson Hovater scored two.

In the boys’ game, Belgreen jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead and held a 27-19 advantage at the half over Russellville. Jake Dill and Jonathan Mendoza each had 17 points to lead BHS. Aaron Rubido added seven points while Rush Berryman and Gabe Estrada had two points each.

Russellville’s Sir Williams led the Golden Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Daniel Aycock scored 11, Parker Odom had seven and Malaki Groce added two. Tripp Cleveland and Gavin McDaniel had one point each.

Girls Deshler 78, RHS 51

Deshler hosted RHS on Dec. 4 and led 38-21 at the half before earning a 60-40 lead after three quarters of play.

Copeland led RHS with 22 points. Hill scored 14 and Smith added 10. Groce and Malone had two points each and Elizabeth Davis scored one point for Russellville.

Reece Davis scored 36 points to lead Deshler to victory.

Jasper 52, RHS 49

Jasper visited Russellville on Dec. 5 and got a close win over the Lady Golden Tigers. RHS led 29-23 at the half, but the Lady Vikings used a strong fourth quarter to get the win. Copeland led Russellville with 25 points. Smith had 10 and Hill scored eight. Davis added five points and Odom scored one point for RHS.

Russellville is now 5-5 on the season.

Boys Deshler 47, RHS 37

Russellville’s Aycock scored 13 points and Williams had 10 but RHS fell to Deshler. Cleveland and Odom added four points each and Conner Vincent had three. Braxton Duncan had two points and Groce scored one for RHS.

Garrett Reid led Deshler with 12 points.

Jasper 79, RHS 39

Jasper outscored RHS 37-11 in the first quarter and dominated the contest from start to finish.

Groce led Russellville in scoring with 11 points. Cleveland had eight, Williams added seven, Odom scored five, and Duncan had four. Shawn Taylor and Vincent had two points each for RHS.

The Golden Tigers are now 1-5 on the season.
