Russellville sets record 41 wins in volleyball

The volleyball season came to an end for the Russellville Golden Tigers at the AHSAA Class 5A North Super Regional held in Hoover, but it was a recording breaking year nonetheless.

Russellville opened the regional with a thrilling 3-2 win over Northside High School by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 26-28, 25-19 and 15-12.

The Golden Tigers then faced Class 5A powerhouse Guntersville. GHS took the match 3-0 by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12.

Versus Northside, Laila Hill led Russellville with 15 kills. Blevyn Sappington added 13, Bella Malone had five and Fatima Ramirez collected four. Brookelynn Davis and Samantha Wilson added three kills each. Ramirez led the Golden Tigers with 22 assists. Alexia Groce added 16 and Bri McCulloch had one. Ramirez and Sappington led the way with four aces each. Erin Grimes served three aces and McCulloch added one ace.

McCulloch collected 35 digs and Grimes had 20. Sappington followed with 16 and Ramirez had 10. Hill added nine, Malone six and Groce had four. Kaylee Suggs and Davis added three digs apiece and Wilson had two. Malone led the team with seven blocks. Wilson had two and Davis added one.

The two seniors on this year’s squad recently added their names to the record book. Hill set the school record for kills in a season, and Ramirez set the school record for assists in a season.

The Golden Tigers finished the season with an impressive record of 41-16, setting a new school record for wins in a season.
