Phil Campbell beats Hanceville 76-29

Phil Campbell left no doubt about its playoff readiness Friday night, delivering a statement performance in a commanding 76-29 victory over the Hanceville Bulldogs.

With the win, the Bobcats secured a postseason spot, facing the Piedmont Bulldogs in the opening round.

The Bobcats set the tone early against Hanceville when Hayston Scott found Hagen Raper for a 29-yard strike in the first quarter. That was followed by Braxton Downey’s 2-yard touchdown run that quickly made the score 13-0.

Raper added to the fireworks with a dazzling 65-yard punt return for a touchdown, giving Phil Campbell a commanding 21-0 lead.

Scott and Austin Elliott connected on a 65-yard touchdown pass that stretched the lead to 28-7.

Phil Campbell’s balanced attack continued to roll. Downey added a 23-yard sprint in the second quarter that pushed the lead to 34-14.

Logan Cooper then joined the scoring parade, finding the end zone twice before halftime as the Bobcats entered the break with a comfortable 54-14 lead.

Scott added another touchdown through the air in the third quarter with a toss to Chandler Benford, while Collin Bell and Kaiden Acevedo capped off the night with late scoring runs to push the total to 76 points.

Phil Campbell’s offense was electric. Quarterback Scott was nearly flawless, completing 14 of 19 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns. Elliott caught six passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. Downey rushed 13 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bobcats’ offense piled up 636 total yards and was a perfect 4-for-4 on third down conversions.

Phil Campbell will face off with rival Red Bay on Halloween night on Friday. The Tigers will enter the game with an 8-1 record and a regional championship.
