Tourneys to start this week

Volleyball teams begin area tournament play this week with the goal of reaching the Super Regionals in Birmingham.

Russellville will be the only county to host tournament play with all others going on the road.

Russellville will host the Class 5A, Area 15 tournament on Thursday. The Golden Tigers will play the winner of Lawrence County and West Point at 6:30 p.m.

Phil Campbell will travel to Colbert Heights to play Sheffield in the Class 3A, Area 15 tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Belgreen and Tharptown will travel to Mars Hill on Wednesday to play in the Class 2A, Area 15 tournament. Belgreen will play Mars Hill at 2 p.m. and Tharptown will play Covenant Christian at 3 p.m.

Red Bay will travel to Sulligent to play Lamar County in the Class 2A, Area 10 tournament on Wednesday.

The top two teams in each area will earn a spot in the Super Regionals the following week.
