Football look ahead
Vina (5-3) hosts Meek (5-3) – Vina and Meek enter this critical game with the same record but different momentum. Vina lost to Addison 41-14 last week. Meek is on a five-game winning streak. Their last three wins were Cherokee, 68-28; Addison, 30-22; and Shoals Christian, 50-0.
Russellville (6-2) at Priceville (2-6) – The Russellville Golden Tigers have clinched a playoff spot. They turn their attention to Priceville this week. The Golden Tigers beat West Point 44-13 last week. They have scored 330 points and allowed 146. Priceville has lost three straight to West Point, Fairview and Lawrence County. The two teams have never met on the gridiron.
Phil Campbell (2-6) at Hanceville (1-7) – Phil Campbell was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs after last week’s 48-12 loss at Gordo. Hanceville was eliminated a few weeks ago. Both teams are playing for pride and momentum for next year. Hanceville has lost four straight games, and they have been outscored this year, 407-142. Both teams beat Carbon Hill – the Bobcats 34-12 and Hanceville 24-0. The two teams have never met.
Tharptown (0-8) at Lexington (4-4) Tharptown will travel to Lexington this week. The Wildcats lost to Winston County, 72-20, last week. They have been outscored, 413-46, this year. Lexington is down from recent years. They stepped out of region play last week and lost to Brooks 45-6 and lost to Winston County 32-6 two weeks prior. The Golden Bears have been outscored, 203-190.
Red Bay (1-7) hosts Tanner (2-6) – Red Bay lost to Decatur Heritage last week, 35-6. The Tigers are 10-12-1 historically against the Rattlers. This is a very different Tanner team than normal. They have only won two games, both to Franklin County teams – Tharptown and Belgreen. Tanner had last week off. They lost the week before to Decatur Heritage, 62-0.
Belgreen (2-3) at Victory Christian (4-3) – Belgreen returns to play after three weeks off as they travel to Pell City to play Victory Christian. The Bulldogs have scored 81 points and allowed 160 in their first varsity season. Victory Christian has scored 208 points and allowed 216. A postgame trip to Buc-ees is almost a certainty.
