PC teams top Vinemont, split with East Lawrence
Vinemont teams were no match for the Bobcats this past week, with both the boys and girls teams pulling wins over the Eagles. Phil Campbell split with East Lawrence, with the girls grabbing another win but the boys falling.
GIRLS
Kenner Scott and Faith Cook scored 16 points each to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats past Vinemont 56-49 for an area win.
Phil Campbell led Vinemont 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Vinemont closed the game to 29-25 at halftime, but the Lady Bobcats began to put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Vinemont 13-3 to extended their lead to 42-28. Vinemont made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcat girls 21-14, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bobcats’ third-quarter advantage.
Madison Branch followed Scott and Cook with 11 points. Hannah Welborn added eight points, Allie Herring four points and Kaylie Motes one point.
Phil Campbell 54, East Lawrence 24
Scott hit five three-pointers and scored 24 points in an easy 54-24 win over the East Lawrence Eagles Friday night. The Bobcats remain undefeated in area play.
Phil Campbell raced out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 32-10 by halftime. The Bobcats didn’t let up, adding to their lead in the third quarter to take a 46-18 advantage.
Herring, Branch, Welborn, Cook, Maddie Raper and Chesney Hamby all scored for Phil Campbell.
BOYS
Cam Habada drained a corner three-pointer as time expired to lift the Phil Campbell Bobcats to a 42-29 area win over Vinemont.
With the game tied 49-49, the Vinemont boys had the ball on their end of the court, working a last-second shot. Bryant Hyde leaped into the air to deflect and steal a Vinemont pass.
As the seconds ticked off the clock, Hyde sprinted down the court and drove to the basket. He passed the ball into the corner to a wide-open Habada, who knocked down the game winner as the buzzer sounded.
Habada led the Bobcats in scoring on the night with 15 points. He also went six-for-seven from the free-throw line.
He was followed by Blain Goodson with eight points, Canaan Clay with seven points, Sage Raper and Kyle Pace with six points each, Hyde with four points and Cole Pace, Gage Baker and Quentin Hyde with two points each.
East Lawrence 74, Phil Campbell 72
The Phil Campbell Bobcats followed up their buzzer-beater win over Vinemont with a valiant fourth-quarter comeback attempt at East Lawrence that fell just short, 74-72.
Trailing 56-43 at the end of the third quarter, Phil Campbell got hot beyond the three-point arch in the fourth quarter, dropping six three-pointers.
Goodson hit two three-point shots. Sage Raper, Kyle Pace, Bryant Hyde and Cam Habada made a three-point bucket in the final period.
The Bobcats also went nine-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
In total, Phil Campbell scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, coming up two points shy of the win.
Hyde led the Bobcats with 18 points. Pace added 16 points, Goodson 12 points, Clay 10 points and Raper six points.
