JUNIOR HIGH TOURNEY, B-JUNIOR BOYS: Braydon Tabbs leads Red Bay to championship

Braydon Tabbs put on a show, scoring a combined 58 points over two games and leading the Red Bay Tigers to the B-Junior boys Franklin County championship.

Tabbs scored 24 of his game-high 26 points in the first half to help beat Belgreen 37-28 for the championship.

Red Bay raced out to an 18-5 first quarter lead, with Tabbs scoring 12 of those points.

Belgreen cut into the Tigers’ lead in the second quarter but couldn’t stop Tabbs, who scored all 12 of Red Bay’s points in the quarter. The Tigers led the Bulldogs 30-22 at the halfway mark.

The scoring slowed considerably in the second half. Red Bay outscored Belgreen 5-2 in the third quarter to extend the Tiger lead to 35-24. Belgreen’s Braycen Johnson made a layup to cut Red Bay’s lead to single digits late in the fourth quarter, 35-26.

Belgreen would get as close as seven points with 1:11 to go in the game, but Red Bay was firmly in control of the game from the start.

“I think our defensive intensity was the best it has been all season during the county tournament,” said Red Bay Coach Kevin Morrow. “Our press was effective just by speeding up the tempo of the game.

“The kids have been a pleasure to coach. They come in ready to go to work in practice every day.”

Red Bay 60, Phil Campbell 30

Tabbs scored a whopping 32 points to help the Red Bay Tigers beat the Phil Campbell Bobcats 60-30 to advance to the finals. Red Bay led Phil Campbell 28-17 at halftime.
