Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

A few days ago I had the pleasure of visiting my good buddy in Columbia, Tenn., Mr. George Carter. He has reached the age of 89 and is looking forward to his next birthday.

So many good memories and good lessons have I learned from my buddy George. He told me he was so thankful the Good Lord has blessed him in many ways, and he said he always remembers to give him thanks every day of his life.

What a remarkable way to look at life, when you are approaching 90 years of age.

So many people have a story to tell, but it’s not easy to find someone who will listen. I think that would be a good New Year’s Resolution: talk less and listen more.

I feel that I have always been a good listener; you can learn so much if you listen to what folks have to say.

In last week’s story I mentioned my buddy Mike Freeland, who passed away. A full military service was presented, and so many shared their stories about Mike and the great sacrifice he made for our country. I reread his book, and it left me feeling a little sad, but I know our country owes all those who served in the military a real debt of gratitude.

I wonder sometimes how much our younger generation really knows about those who have protected our freedom for many years. I am so sad with politicians arguing about whatever comes to mind; why can’t we all agree to disagree and get on with the business at hand?

We all have so much to be thankful for, and when we study about those third world countries that are living in poverty, it should be an eye-opener for all of us who live in this country. Sometimes the news makes me depressed, so I have chosen not to listen to people who rely on negative things that might or might not be taking place.

As I wrote my story this week, I received a call about our friend Andy Cansler, who just passed away. Andy was a friend to everyone and always had his priorities right in life. I am so sad to learn of his passing. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family. He will certainly be missed by all.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby

Thought for the Day

Humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your cares upon him; for he cares for you. –1 Peter 5:6-7
