Hi folks,
Christmas spirit is certainly in the air in downtown Russellville. “Toyland,” that was held at the Roxy, has drawn untold crowds of people every day. The Holly Day held at the Todd Center had a huge gathering this past Saturday, and the downtown was overflowing.
At Bolton’s we were busy all week. New merchandise was arriving, and folks were in a buying mood. It brought back memories from years ago when customers were downtown, ready to spend the S.T.I.R. tickets merchants gave away with every dollar that was spent. Many had their tickets glued on piece of poster board, ready to look for the winning number that gave them a chance to win a car or other valuable merchandise that was given away.
It’s good to see people in a happy, joyous mood. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see this kind of spirit every day?
A lot of people are enjoying the new steakhouse, Doe’s Eat Place, located on main street, and the 5¢ and 10¢ Antique located in the old White’s 5¢ and 10¢ building. A lot of local artifacts can be found here, and we encourage everyone to pay a visit to each of these new businesses.
It would be hard to pick a building with the most beautiful Christmas decorations. The Courthouse is beautiful, the Post Office really stands out, and the public library looks wonderful.
I made an out-of-state visit last week, and the traffic was terrible. A trip that usually takes about two hours turned into a three-hour ordeal. I saw gasoline for $2.04 per gallon in some places and as high as $2.48 per gallon in other towns. Be very careful if you are traveling this holiday because some drivers are crazy when they get behind a wheel.
I hope that 2018 has been a good year for everyone, especially the readers of Homefolks U.S.A. In a few short weeks we will be welcoming in the new year of 2019, if it’s the Lord’s will. I wonder how many of our readers will make New Year’s resolutions. Most will be broken, but it never hurts to plan and make things better for the coming year. Be safe, be happy and most of all be thankful!
