County holds monthly meeting

A public hearing preceded the Franklin County Commission regular meeting Nov. 19 to discuss the vacating of Humphries Road.

No one came forward to contest the motion, and during the new business section of the regular meeting, the commission voted and approved vacating the road.

Other actions taken at the meeting included:

  • Approving the Homeland Security grant administration.
  • Approving the requested catastrophic sick leave of Dale Frederick from the sheriff’s department because of cancer.
  • Approving the retirement of Delane Clark from the sheriff’s department effective Dec. 1.
  • Approving the PE Agreement with Civil Group for Highway 77 and Highway 60 at the price of $22,357.
  • Approving the resignation of temporary employee Danny Morgan from the Highway Department effective Oct. 18.
  • Approving the right for the chairman of the commission to sign off on the railroad crossing at Walnut Gate Road when the time comes. It is a $33,000 project that will be split between the city and the county; it could take six months to one year to complete.
  • Approving North Alabama Paving Inc. for the Road Gear Industrial Access project at the Mike Green Industrial Park for $179,074.75.
  • Approving the retirement of Rita Jeffreys from the revenue commission effective Dec. 1. A retirement party will be held for Jeffreys at the Courthouse Annex Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
  • Approving the hiring of Natalie Henson to the revenue/probate clerk position in Red Bay.
  • Approving the advertisement for an accountant/payable clerk in the Franklin County Commission office.
  • Approving the discussed Nationwide Retirement plan.
  • Approving the chairman of the commission to sign off on the CDBG grant for water and sewer at Road Gear, if it is applied for.
