Celebrate season of thankfulness

As I sat down to write this, the first snowfall of the season was fluttering away outside. It wasn’t a heavy precipitation, but I think it’s safe to say we’re in for a cold winter. After all, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and my car has been dusted with white flurries.

It can be discouraging to some that we are already experiencing winter weather before the autumnal season is over. It often seems stores and individuals skip over Thanksgiving and hop straight into celebrating Christmas. I think it’s easy to do this because once the holiday season hits, it feels like time speeds up. One minute you’re buying Halloween candy, and the next you’re having to rush and buy Christmas presents before all the good stuff is sold out.

But with Thanksgiving literally a day away, I want to challenge you all to bask in this month of thankfulness. Look around and take notice of the things and people you have surrounded yourself with. Whether you can be with your loved ones on this holiday or not, take a moment to express your appreciation for those people. If that means making a call, sending an email or even just sending up a prayer for them, take the time to do it.

Another good practice to take part in during this season is to make a list of everything and everyone you are grateful for. Some people share these lists or even just one item with their loved ones, but you don’t have to. It can be uplifting and encouraging when you take a step back and notice all that you have to be grateful for.

It’s easy in the busy day-to-day of life to forget these small blessings, but that is what the Thanksgiving holiday is for: remembering and appreciating life’s precious moments.
