East Franklin celebrates bus drivers

Bus drivers at East Franklin Junior High School stepped into the spotlight this month when students took the opportunity to recognize and appreciate them.

Students honored the four EFJHS bus drivers by presenting each driver with handmade cards as a token of thanks for all that they do.

Trenia Oliver, Debbie Rambo, Brenda Hill and Paige Wehunt do so much more than just drive a bus. Not

only do they transport students to and from school each day, they truly care for each student and strive daily to make them feel safe and loved.

“Driving a school bus can be one of the most rewarding and stressful jobs ever,” Oliver said. “When you can see the smiling face of a child that just needed you to show you care, that’s rewarding. Being the person that a child feels like they can trust to help them – that’s rewarding.

Knowing that someone’s precious child is in your hands, Oliver said, is one of the stressful parts, as well as “knowing that you have to protect these children from other kids and from accidents while on your bus.”

“In 14 years of driving a school bus, I have watched many kids start and graduate school,” Oliver added. “I always enjoy hearing what they want to become or what they have already become. Watching kids growing up on a daily basis is almost like watching your own kids grow up. Some of them you are so proud of – and some not so much – but they are all special in their own way.”

EFJHS officials said the students, faculty and staff are proud and blessed to have these bus drivers. Their efforts to transport, protect, support and love each student do not go unnoticed, and many thanks go to all bus drivers for the impact they make in students’ lives.
