Phil Campbell falls to Bears

The Phillips Bears ended the Phil Campbell Bobcats’ two-game win streak Friday night 28-12.
“We just didn’t match their level of intensity,” said Phil Campbell coach Kevin Barnwell. “They are a senior-laden team, and they just seemed to want it more than we did. We sat back and waited for something to happen, and they went out and made things happen. We have to go out with a winning intensity every time we suit up for us to get where we want to be.”
Phillips jumped out to a 14-0 lead by the 7:40 mark in the second quarter. Phil Campbell responded with a quick drive to cut into the Bears’ lead on a run by Trey Leindecker to make the score 14-6.
Phillips took a commanding halftime lead, scoring with 0:10 to go in the first half on a 29-yard touchdown pass.
Phil Campbell added a score in the third quarter on a four-yard touchdown pass from Luke Barnwell to Trent Gonzalez to pull the Bobcats to within eight points, 20-12. That was as close as Phil Campbell would get.
Phillips added one more touchdown to the board.
Luke Barnwell finished the game with 115 yards passing.
Phil Campbell (2-3) will be back in region action this week as the Bobcats host undefeated Westminster Christian Academy.
