Russellville volleyball grabs win

The Russellville High School volleyball team recently played four matches away from home and picked up one win.

Sept. 18, the Lady Golden Tigers went to Haleyville and took on both the Lions and Cordova. RHS fell to Cordova 2-1 by scores of 21-25, 25-22 and 13-15.

For Russellville, Josie Willis and Krista Sikes had eight assists each. Alivia Clemmons had 17 digs, and Briana Ramirez had 15. Kaitleen Arzola had five kills and five blocks, while Callie Palmer had four kills. Briley Gillespie also added 10 blocks at the net for RHS.

In the match against Haleyville, Russellville lost by scores of 17-25 and 18-25. Ramirez led Russellville with 10 digs, while Clemmons had 9. Arzola picked up five kills, and Palmer pitched in with three. Gillespie had five blocks this time for head coach Whitney Glover’s team.

Glover took her squad to Lawrence County Thursday to face the Red Devils and Randolph in a tri-match. RHS lost to LCHS 3-0 in an area match but did take a 2-0 victory over the Randolph Raiders.

The loss to Lawrence County makes Russellville 2-1 in Class 5A, Area 14. RHS has a 6-14 record so far this season.
