Enjoy festival season in Franklin County

Recently, I heard someone say there are too many festivals in Franklin County – that that is all that seems to be going on lately.

My first thought was, “Well, yeah, it’s festival season.” And it’s not just festival season here; it’s everywhere. When the sun comes out to play, so do the people.

What I don’t understand is how this could possibly be a bad thing, especially when the festivals in Franklin County are free to attend. It’s not Sloss Fest or Bonnaroo; you don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars just to gain admission. They are open to everyone, free of charge and have at least one thing everyone can enjoy.

If you like music, we’ve got that. If you like food, there are always food vendors. If you like to just spend time outdoors and hang out with your friends and loved ones, well, that’s what this is all about.

As somebody who enjoys spending about 75 percent of her time at home, even I enjoy festivals. The giant lemonades and greasy foods just taste like childhood – and live music, whether you know the artist or not, has the ability to overwhelm your senses and transport you to a place where nothing else matters.

The unrelenting, wet heat drives some people away, but this is the South. We only have two seasons: summer and winter. Enjoy the summer while you can before you get frostbitten toes and iced in driveways. The experience is more than worth it.
