Governor marks Father’s Day
Gov. Kay Ivey signed a proclamation acknowledging June 17, 2018, as Father’s Day and encouraging all Alabamians to recognize the important role fathers play.
The proclamation states: “It is important to give appropriate recognition to past and present fathers for their unique and valuable role in the lives of our children and for providing the foundation for the healthy and social development of our families who are a vital interest in the future of Alabama” and encouraged Alabamians to visit fatherhood.org for information on “creating sustainable fatherhood initiatives.”
“Fathers are honored on Father’s Day. All are urged to take concentrated steps to embrace fathers and value every child’s need for a father in their daily lives,” the proclamation added.
The proclamation came by request of the Alabama Family Rights Association.
“Data shows we don’t value fathers enough, and it’s harming our kids, families, communities and state,” said ALFRA vice president Debbie Zeiger. “Special thanks to Gov. Ivey for caring about children and families in Alabama.”
