North-South All-Star squad to include PC’s Abby Davis

Phil Campbell forward Abby Davis has been chosen to represent north Alabama in the AHSAA North-South girls basketball All-Star game.
“I am extremely excited about getting this opportunity,” said Davis. “I have dreamed about playing in this game since my first full year on the varsity team in the ninth grade. My mom and I have been talking about it this year, being my junior year, and making it one of my personal goals.”
It has been a successful year for Davis and her teammates at Phil Campbell. The Bobcats were Franklin County champions, area champions and Northwest Regional champions and advanced to the state semifinals for the first time since 1987.
“This has been an exciting basketball season,” said Davis. “Not only did we accomplish some great team achievements on the court, but now I get to represent my school in the North-South All-Star game.”
Davis found out about her selection as she was going into her junior prom Friday night and could barely contain her emotions.
“I almost started crying,” said Davis. “One of my friends asked me what was wrong, and she said, ‘I’m so excited for you, but don’t cry; you will mess up your makeup.’
“It was definitely one of the highlights of my night.”
Davis has racked up some big career numbers: 1,334 points, 1,548 rebounds, 189 steals, 141 assists and 129 blocks for the Bobcats.
The North-South game will be played July 18 at Alabama State’s Acadome in Montgomery, with the girls tipping at 6 p.m. The boys game will follow immediately after.
In another Franklin County tie-in, former PCHS basketball coach Will Copeland will coach the North boys team. Copeland is the current head coach at Sylacauga High School and won the 5A state championship.
